Wauna-fo gymnastics with a promising season

The Waunakee-Deforest Gymnastics team started their 2021 season, and everything about this season is different. In accordance with Covid-19 policies, the team is only able to have 10 athletes in the gym at a time, so the team split into two groups.

With only having 3 meets scheduled for the season and one being a virtual competition, the team is definitely making lemonade out of lemons. As senior Lexi Burgard puts it, “This year is less about competition and more about being able to be in the gym and practicing.”

The team lost Waunakee seniors Caylee Powers (bars and beam), Ashley Domask (all around), and Kenzie Roepke (bars and vault). However with Deforest senior Sydney Thompson, who made an appearance at State for beam, and Burgard returning, the team has lots of potential. The first meet will be virtual. It will take place on Monday the 25th and Tuesday the 26th against Verona and Sun Prairie.
