Warrior wrestlers this season
February 2, 2021
After a very successful season in 2020, the Waunakee wrestlers are back and ready to hit the mat. With 3 out of 5 state qualifiers returning this season and 9 wrestlers returning who contributed to their regional championship, the chances of making an appearance at state in 2021 is very high.
Just like many teams, the wrestlers have had to adapt to the new COVID-19 protocols. Their practices are non contact, and masks are mandatory for practices and competitions. Competitions also look different this year as their only tournaments will be in the postseason. Sectionals have been combined, and therefore, the Warriors will face off against some of the top teams in the state.
What’s unique about this team is how deep the roster is. Seniors Sam Lorenz, Kolby Heinz, and Braysen Ellis all qualified for State last year and will be back this year. On the other side, underclassmen Max McKinley, Jayden Frieie, and Colton Nechvatal all won their last matches in the most recent quadrangular at Holmen High School. Needless to say, the future of the Warriors Wrestling program is in good hands.
