The girls’ cross country team recently finished their season and experienced several late season successes. In October, the team won a sixth straight Badger North Conference title and captured a state berth following a win at sectionals for the first time in school history.
The conference meet was held at Ripp Park in Waunakee, the team’s home course. On a brisk Saturday morning, the team overwhelmed opponents as they won the Badger North Conference championship by securing the top four individual places. Sophomore Reagan Hoopes finished in first and was followed by seniors Emily Royston and Kaitlyn Galgon at second and third, respectively, and freshman Anne Dotzler in fourth.
One week after their triumphs at the conference meet, the girls’ cross country team traveled to DeForest for sectionals, vying for a place at the state meet. Similar to their victory at conference, the team won the title in convincing fashion, with Hoopes once again placing first individually. She finished with a time of 19:04, 22 seconds better than the second place runner. Behind Hoopes was Galgon, who claimed fourth, and Royston, who finished in fifth place. Dotzler ran well with a ninth place finish, as did sophomore Anna Davis, who clinched 38th place. As a team, the girls finished ahead of Madison Memorial and Stoughton, leading to a final stop at State in late October.
In Wisconsin Rapids, the girls competed at the state meet at the Ridges Golf Club.
